Birth Arts offers three ways to become a certified Birth Arts International Postpartum Doula (BAIPPD):


Enrollment Options
1. Weekend Workshop- Please visit our classdates page, selection a class and contact the local trainer. If you can't find a local training you can always contact us about hosting one in your hometown. Students enroll directly with the class instructor. Enrollment Fee: Varies

2. eLearning Education Program-Train completely online. All of your educational materials are online, as is the course manual. Students have an interactive classroom. You can enroll directly through the student portal. Enrollment Fee: $350.00

3. Distance Learning- Students still have access to the online classroom, but they also recieve in the mail their hard copy of the course manual. This program has a slightly higher fee, this covers shipping and text. Enrollment Fee: $395.00

You will receive the Birth Arts Postpartum Doula training manual which contains a list of certification requirements, study guide, reading list, projects to be completed, up to date information, resources list and more. This workshop compliments the Labor and Birth Doula Training Workshop nicely or can be taken separately.

Postpartum Doulas can choose to operate as only postpartum practitioners or in combination with a labor support doula practice.

The subsequent statements are some of the advantages gained by the use of postpartum doulas:
• Increased chance of breastfeeding successfully.
• Increased earlier bonding with mother and the whole family unit.
• Less chance of infant dehydration and hospitalization with health difficulties due to educated care
• A reduced amount of maternal postpartum depression and shorter duration and easier for mother to cope with it if it occurs
• Less maternal exhaustion, frustration, trepidation and anxiety during early weeks.
• Reduction in unnecessary calls to pediatricians
• The Partner can get back to work sooner with less anxiety
• More of an understanding of newborn emotional and physical needs and behavior
• More care choices, tools for dealing with relations and others.

What do Postpartum Doulas Do?

Postpartum doulas decide what their practice covers. Generally they offer
Breastfeeding Support
Mother Care Support
Cooking meals
Shopping
Cleaning
Caring for infant while mother bathes, eats, etc..
Some also offer
Other childcare (not directly caring for newborn)
Laundry

Who uses Postpartum Doulas?

• First-time mothers and fathers
• Families with other children
• Families with multiples
• Mothers recovering from Cesarean surgery
• Partners who need to return to work soon after the birth
• Mothers planning to be home soon after the birth (because of a short hospital stay, birth center birth or home birth)
• And more! A postpartum doula can help any family who has just given birth or adopted.

How much do postpartum doulas make?

Generally they make $20.00-65.00 an hour. This is directly linked to your practice and geography.

This program allows you to work at your own pace and around the needs of your family and lifestyle. We at Birth Arts understand that life happens and our lives come first.
